Video: Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties Celebrates 900th Home Build
PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (JUNE 21, 2024) - Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties celebrated a huge milestone today - their 900th home build! The Jones family's home dedication was held Friday morning in the historic Dansville-Ridgecrest community in Largo.
Xavier Jones is a single father to three children. He describes his family as very tight-knit. "I'm very family oriented and spending time with my kids every day is something that I'm real big on. My mom was a single parent so I know how it feels to not have the other parent present. That alone pushes me to be the best father I can be to my children."
When Xavier was first accepted into the Habitat program he felt overwhelmed with excitement. He knew he was now one step closer to where he wanted to be in life. "I knew this was going to be a big deal for me and my family and also set me up for success and more stability for us. Such a huge blessing!"
In his new home, Xavier imagines his life to be more peaceful and comfortable for his family. "I'm excited to start creating memories with my family," he explained. "Just having that stability means a lot!"
To earn his new home, Xavier completed 36 homeownership education courses and over 450 hours of "sweat equity" building the house.
"If I can say one thing about myself, it's that it ain't how you start, but how you finish," said Xavier during the home dedication. "I'm looking forward to starting our new journey, and I'm just so proud. I'm proud of myself."
The St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA) is honored to have Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties as a valued community partner.
