One of SPHA’s goals is to help military veterans find safe, sustainable, and affordable housing. If you are a veteran, here are some options for you:
- Wait List Preference: Veterans receive a preference on SPHA’s Section 8 and Public Housing wait lists, shortening the time spent waiting for affordable housing.
- Project-Based Vouchers for Veterans: Through the Project-Based Voucher program, 23 vouchers were granted to Boley Centers, Inc. and Catholic Charities, Diocese of St. Petersburg, Inc. to provide affordable rentals for military veterans at specific housing units at their properties.
- HUD-VASH Vouchers for Homeless Veterans: SPHA has 275 HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers, which help house local homeless veterans. With a HUD-VASH voucher issued by SPHA, homeless veterans are able to rent private sector housing in St. Petersburg, contingent on their motivation to continue treatment and improve their individual circumstances.
- Housing Development for Veterans: SPHA has plans to build an accessible and affordable brick-and-mortar apartment development for local veterans. SPHA is actively working on this project and plans to commit at least $4 million to it.
